We visited the Tate Modern on day 2 , week 1 of the Investigate Project.
I really didn’t think I was going to find anything new. Everyone paired off, so I quickly check the Tate web site and realised there were two new exhibitions and made my way up the escalators. Then I thought would check out some old favourites.
I couldn’t find them I like rehangs but I wish we could know what will be where when.
This was the second exhibition I saw but it interested me more than the first.
Dora Maurer.

I am very interested in the plans Maurer had for herself , what she eventually did and how she found her practice. I am hoping the talk will reveal more.

I wonder if there is just some subconscious connection to circles which when we see it we are drawn to it.

The first exhibition I looked at was Narm June Paik.
I was amazed just how many pieces/ideas there were that are still inspiring work from other artists today.

Although I was Interested I was less interested in this show- except where it intersected with another artist or my interests. I wondered if this was the curation or the fact that the work had become historical and that other artists had harvested many of the ideas and processes which they then had managed to elevate further, managing to reform them so they now resonated with current contemporary ideas and themes? sadly I think this is the case as how ever cutting edge art is when created there is always the prospect that each generation will reform and translate it for their own purpose and the original is forgotten or discarded.
We then regrouped and talked about what we had looked at.
Something that was discussed in depth was the learning processes an artist goes through when exhibiting their work. How their ideas and perspectives may change after being exposed to other people’s reactions and thoughts about the installation and exhibition of their work.
