Week 22: Tutorial week 5.

I had a tutorial with Isabel.

I wasn’t sure which path to take with all my research. I feel my research is still very open ended.

We looked at my lemon photos and research photos from my crit. on the wall.

The paper layer canvass, different supports and surfaces. My experiments with paste glues, natural paints and gesso.

I like the cracks that seem to get more accentuated with the added layer of marble dust and gesso. The strength of the size has contacted the canvas- a looser weave than I would have usually used. I curriou, it has dragged the surface, exposing the sides they have been forced, pulled.

We looked at to my ”bowls” made in response to my moon jar research.

Paper and muslin trapped around a mixing bowl. October 2019.
Same bowl released. November 2019.
Gesso day. December 2019.
Now hard and brittle. December 2019.

I can now see that my final piece from the Artifacts project-Jam in a Jar…

was just research. I had made connections but not found my final piece. I had found an answer to my question. ”Find something I hold up high, way above it’s material value, which I mystically embue way beyond what others may see”.

No one was going to fathom this. I couldnt explain it. I couldn’t justify it. I didn’t evidence the process or journey. I needed to do more research. I could have left it at the bowls .

Isabel looked in bag I had bought in from home – I had had another rumage in the kitchen-it was full of herbs and food stuffs that make natural dyes. All have meaning, some only to others – this makes me curious- and some are my go to foods and home made remedies for various minor ailments eg “sheep dip” “pictpack” and turmeric.

Isabel thought this was much more interesting and suggested I looked at my interests in hearbology and kitchen cuboard cures rather than kitchen cuboard paints may be in conjunction with my interest in jars pots and the bowls.
