March 2020 – looking for direction…..

First day etc.. I had better get planning or I shall get lost.

In one of my first RCA lectures Gary our course director talked about Margaret Calvert, he spoke in hallowed tones and It caught my imagination. During my ”morning read” this article popped up, I was captivated, and found the direction I was looking for.

The last 8 months are just what I needed and had hoped for. The realisation that within my work the digging around and asking questions is what they like to call research. This is very helpful and I have begun to realise the importance of evidencing my research in a critical manner to validate what is that I do. I still maintain that visual art needs only to impart to be worthy of consideration – critical evidencing is a bit like the instruction manual, or a contence list enclosed with the product. Paperwork is for those who need it, some are irritated when they don’t have it and write off whatever it is as a worthless, not worthy of their attention. I think the artwork should speak for itself, but if you want to be fairly read, make a point, its important to give directions and signposts.

Nayna sent me this a while back- must remember to keep it…….
