The MA in Arts and Learning utilises a number of complementary assessment strategies. These have been devised to appropriately assess the range of learning outcomes
For Critical Pedagogy in Contested Spaces, outcomes are assessed by a collaborative exhibition/presentation/event and viva and an individual text/written submission.
The collaborative exhibition/presentation/event is enabled through Practice-Based Inquiry (PBI) that puts practice and research at the heart of your learning experience. You will form small working groups to explore a specific range of themes related to pedagogy, politics, power and identity. Your group will utilise the time in Goldsmith’s sessions to develop a collaborative practice that will culminate in a collaborative exhibition/performance/event/presentation that will be presented/shared at Goldsmiths, at which time you will engage in a group viva.
The viva will usually comprise of a thirty-minute assessment discussion in the presence of the exhibition/event and with any supporting work/studies/sketchbook etc, with usually at least two members of the programme staff. The viva will be audio recorded for moderation and external examination purposes.
The text/written submission (3000 words) is an individual submission where you will critically analyse and evaluate the processes, practices and theoretical underpinning of your PBI and also demonstrate an advanced, critical and in-depth understanding of a range of critical, theoretical and pedagogical debates, pertaining to your own praxis and those displayed in and by international artists/ galleries such as the Tate, with correct Harvard referencing format.
It is vital that each individual is aware of the module learning outcomes as these outcomes must be explicit within the project and explored in your group viva and written submission. Your mark for this module will be dependent on the aggregate of marks from the written submission, collaborative exhibition/event/presentation/viva, and therefore all elements must be submitted.
Submission of statements/images/written submissions.
All statements and images/video links of exhibition/presentation/events/written submissions must be submitted electronically, by the submission date, under the module heading on the MAAL learn. gold page with a cover sheet.
Prior to final submission for essays, you can use Turnitin software, which is available through the general learn.gold page, for you to check your own drafts to make sure you have correctly referenced them and there is no danger of you submitting plagiarised work. This is confidential, and tutors do not see it. You can submit as many drafts as you wish, but no more than one every 24 hours.
Lots to do.
Words and phrases that have resonated are becoming, bearing fruit, bittersweet perceptions and connectivity.
