Light up Bottle Bug Hotels

It was a cold but fine February afternoon as we crowed in to the hut organised by Hive Curates for the “Light Up Kilburn” festival.

Luisa and I prototyped our lanterns, and researched the science behind up-cycling. We found every day objects to use to create our garden lanterns and hoped our collaborators would write notes to express their hopes for the future, to be include in our bottle bug hotels. We foraged, glued and generally had a really great time with our budding makers and bigger makers who accompanied them. Our expectations were surpassed.

Light up Bottle Bug Hotel Instructions

2. Cut off the ends of the bottles to make a tube

3. Cut a piece of string long enough to hang around your neck.

4. Feed the string though the bottle tube and tie the ends with a knot.

5. Stuff bottle with, leaves, sticks, stones, cones, tubes of paper, and then insert the lights.

6. Test the lights, if still working stuff the hotel with more sticks and leaves until tight.
